One week of Holiday in RAROTONGA part#1 -Photos

Good day everyone ,
I know some of you are waiting impatiently for my story about my trip to Raro.
We stayed for a week at Manea beach villas (Muri Lagoon) , where i was cleaning the area apposite one of the hotels.
My research paid off - noone ever detected the area. I was doing about 3 hours a day . Detecting while snorkeling. And. OH MAN! there were so many targets! you would not believe!
I think i was able o cover only 0.001% of the area with targets. I also had a big help from the current - it was really strong with tide coming - dragging all light items  into dead spot. - so i had a very limited ammount of crap/light  targets like pull tabs.

Area of detecting is between main shore and an atoll :

the depth is as seen above- waist deep during low tide and goes up 0.5m during high tide - so i could detect any time regardless of the tide.I did take my Sandscoop with my- but abandoned it the first day.
The reason for that is that all items go into reef  "pores" and stay there. so in order to retrieve the item- i had to "wave away" all sand from the spot with a hand and then try to extract the item  (i will have all that in the video in PART#2 once i compile all the episodes):

Here what it looks like after removing sand and trying to get an item out (this one was filmed by my partner where i actually abandoned 10c coin after 5 minutes - couldn't get it out)

I know people do not like to read a long long stories. so this post will be pretty short :-)
My total finds were about 350coins (the below picture doesnt have all of them as it was made only half way through)

Brakedown as following :

Cook Island coins:
5$ * 12
2$* 19
1$*22
---
50C*7
20C*10
10C*12
5C*4
Total 120$ spendable
NZ coins:

2$*39
1$*52
50C*28
20C*50
10C*35
5C*24
2C*14
1C*7

Total 130$ spendable
1 Penny 192
2 Florins 1949/1964
+some AU dollars etc....

Total Rings were about 15 at the end of the trip, But main finds are as below:

Top are 5 Silver Rings
Middle is 4 9CT gold rings (last with small diamonds)
and last ring is a copper wedding ring :-( all other rings were junk :-(
The total weight of rings is just over 20 gram, that makes it about 500$ scrap value.
I've realized that Raro is a holiday destination for NZ tourists. and we all know that New Zealanders do not wear much gold and all wedding rings are usually 9 CT :-(

I've also cleaned the lagoon from a lot of rubbish and dropped a big bag of it at MURI LAGOON ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER - where guys made a picture of me and promised to write in newspaper and online- should get a link later on.

Final Picture of a lagoon cleaner :

STAY TUNED for a Video Post!

I've got BIG NUTS! what about you?

Good day everyone!
Went on a quick friendly hunt with Littlespec at Coyle park (overhunted palce)
Didn't find much as was going over other treasure hunters steps, but managed to pull couple of nice finds:
Long time ago gold plated ring and a token for Ripley's :

But the main find of the day is a Mushroom spot!
No, Not kidding, as you might know- i am Russian. Gathering eatable mushrooms is really popular in autumn .
So, as we had rains and then hot weather for the past week- they are groqing almost every where , where Pine trees are. I am talking about this mushroom (I put some in a bowl- actually got about 3 Kilo of them) :

Suillus (Масленок)

And here is my breakfast - scramble eggs with mushrooms :-)

I hope you all Enjoyed the post and you have about 1-2 weeks of them growing- so get out there and ger some. they are awesome!

The full day of treasure hunting with Treasure Seeker

Good Day Everyone.
Today was an incredible day for Metal Detecting with nice weather , good company and outstanding finds!
Treasure Seeker and i went on a 100 km round trip today including some parks and a beach that started at 6 am today.
As we were scouting a lot of new places, i can not tell you areas we visited as we are planning to come back :-), Sorry guys.

Anyway. here is an incredible story of our day:

The first stop was at a park that was build over old school field, so we expected to have a lot of old targets, but upon arrival and scanning the area we realized that old ground was stripped and new soil put over as we had no old targets what so ever, but within first 15 minutes i found the following silver ring that i do really like :

At that point i said that even if i find nothing else, i am still happy with a trip. We spent about an hour at the park pulling "goldies" but left to follow initial plan of trying to break the "Curse". To those who do not know : Treasure Seeker wasunable to Find Half Crown and i was missing Florin and half crown. So i said that as far as i got my silver ring we need to go and find that half a crown! Treasure Seeker laughed at my optimism and we were on our way to the next spot.

Next stop was some random small, like really small park with playground and a bench, nothing else.
We scanned playground pulling couple of bucks each and decided to check couple of trees around, i just start walking towards trees, while Treasure Seeker was scanning the ground.....

....10 steps behind be i hear : "YES YES!!!!yes!!!!!" i turned around and could see a big smile...
... Yes it was a Half Crown pulled from an unexpected place - the 2 meters of grass between bench and playground. It was very shallow as well!

We spent about half an hour at the park and didnt find any other silvers. However i did find couple artifacts : the biggest lead weight i ever found (in the park?!) and thought to be silver pen made in England. but turned out to be just steel.

Now Treasure Seeker being in a good believing mood  said that we need to go and find a Florin for me :-)
So we went to our next place ... and what you think ??
.... Now it was me shouting :  "YES YES!!!!yes!!!!!" just minutes in our hunt .
I did pull that Florin ! :

There were other cool finds from the spot like 1882 Half Penny, USMC Button and Vintage Car Club of NZ badge :

We did pull pennies and some $$ from the spot, but there were no rings and to full fill the quest of the day- ring for everyone, we headed to the beach.

We didnt find much at the beach to be honest, but we did complete the quest and got a silver ring each !
Mine was another CTR ring , this time a tiny one :

Here are all my keepers for the day :

Not going to name everything you see as main things are described above. But the only other note is about those 3 blobs of something above copper plate - those do have gold color and i was joking that i found Gold NUGGETS! :-) most likely they are brass. but will see once clean them up properly and test.

I want to say is a HUGE thank you to Treasure Seeker for a fantastic day. (do not forget to check his blog for todays finds)

And the last thing to say is : Do your research, team up with other people and have fun guys!

Next update is the big video of all my finds for the last 6 month!

Excalibur Trip #11 , Cheltenham, Pull tab Personal Record

Good Evening Everyone,
Treasure Seeker and I went on a dual hunt to our favorite beach - Cheltenham.
As it is way over the end of beach season and there were no storms- we didnt expect much.
So i got two 1$ coins, then i got a spoon -the really interesting tendency is that once i find any cutlery i usually find a ring after that, so i told Treasure Seeker that i should find a ring anytime after the spoon! And what do you think? 15 minutes later a tiny Silver Ring :

But the best Find of the day is actually awesome Toy Bulldozer . Also beating personal Record of max Pull Tabs in a hunt - 44 ! it is just a pity that there were no gold ring in those 44 targets :-( :

That is a full Truck Load of Pull tabs :-))

Tomorrow i will be going to either Takapuna or Mission bay for water hunting, if anyone would like to make me company - txt or call me :-)

See ya all at the beach and happy Hunting .

Excalibur Trip#10 , Orakei

Good day!
I have a day off today and decided to go for a low tide,Mud hunt at Orakei. I tell you the truth- i was really disgusted to detect there. so much rubbish - and i am not talking about bottle tops. Wrappers, personal hygiene  items ....you name it :-(

Anyway. spent 2 hours and got 1$ :-) coin wise. but also some really nice keppers like Hot Wheels for my car collection . Cell phone number 4 and nice spoon with "Stanley Rogers " Kensington 18/10, Korea  marking

But best Find of the day is this beautiful Sterling Ring with 3 Stones:

It will be soon 6 month since i started Metal detecting. so stay tuned for the massive post of all finds for the 6 month  , Video will be included :-)
