15 August trip to Ngaruawahia, Silver Ring # 50 for the year and more

First of all i would like to Thank Dale for making this trip happening - it was a great day out!

I set 2 alarm clocks for 06:00 and 06:05. I do not remember switching 06:00 but exactly when 06:05 am went off - i got a call from Dale saying that he is 20 minutes away....
... I was Running like crazy chicken around the house putting my shit together....
Headphones- check,
Lesche -Check

Knee pads, Gloves, pouch - Check

Propointer?! where the heck is propointer...... Check

06:30 we took off with a first stop at Huntly for couple of hours with a mixed results , had breakfast and went to  Ngaruawahia.

We found a really nice area, but strange... The ground has numerous targets... heaps and heaps of pennies and no deeper than 4 inches. But further down in the ground- some metal or hot rocks that was constantly giving ferrous signals.

Having so many good targets, we had to discriminate and ignore background ferrous sound and go very very slow... and that is where ctx3030 kicked in showing how advanced it is over many other detectors. i doubt that any low range detectors would be able to pick up good targets masked by pile of ferrous junk underneath.

Anyway. a lot of talking, here are interesting finds. The first one consists of 3 pieces. Where i found only 1/3 but Dale helped out and found the rest 2 - the complete Cricket Buckle! i would say its pretty rare to find one in NZ. but here we go :

It is a pity that actual "Shield" of the buckle was found by Dale (like next to me where i found the 1/3 piece of buckle) and i would not be able to claim buckle award :-(

Here is close look from the ground:

There were heaps and heaps of 1-2C pieces that i have excluded from this post, but here are all of the finds before clean up and separation :

Some of You might ask : " what is that thing next to the buckle ? " that  jew's-harp :

Another good find was a following silver charm bracelet :

About the sunset time ,when we already packed to go back, Andrew called me saying that he is on the way to Takapuna . So Dale and i joined him for an hour, where i got my #50 Silver ring for the year, 12th Silver coin for the day (3d), beating Dale with his personal best of 11 silvers from last week trip and a 2$ coin :-)
Dale and Andrew also got a silver ring at Takapuna .

Here are all of the non 1-2c finds for the day :

GRRRrRR!! i so was hoping for another Full house, but both Florins are non silver :-(

And here is my oldest find for the trip UK Shilling 1877 :

Thanks for stopping by and see you around!

Gold! ゴールド! 金 ! Or! Золото! - Ring# 41 for a year

After Thursday hard out night i though that i would give it a miss on friday,
But got a call from Dale in the morning if i was keen for more detecting... you know me... i am always keen :-)
With weather being absolutely fantastic and tide around 3 pm we had some time before for a park hunt.

First we went to Western Park just for a quick scan , but effort was fruitless. However there was an interesting eye find , the rock signed by mysterious girl :

Then we went to another west Auckland park that has original / non reinstated soil, but it was too young :-( got couple of pennies - one with word STELLA stamp over one side and a Chinese coin with a hole

Close to tide we went to Long Bay , where targets were very few and far in between.
By the time i scored the below watch

, Dale had to leave, but i decided to stay as i had a plan to find my gold ring.. Glad i stayed! Right after Dale left, i got 12-38 and 2 scoops down found this beautiful 8 Gram 22 (916) Gold Ring!

And here is a Video of the Find!

Thanks for watching and see you out there!

Attempt # 1 to get 100$ in one day.. Half way there!

Heya all,
Dale and i went on a long distance trip yestarday having two different objectives
Dale wanted to get old coins, i wanted to get 100$ in one day...
.. Important thing to mention, both of use were using CTX3030, but dale with 12 inch coil, while i was using 17 inch coil.

This resulted in a mixed outcome- Dale was able to pick up smaller silver coins from dry soil layer underneath wet layer, where i was not hearing them. So i got NO silver coins(or maybe i was just unlucky) and Dale got.... 11!
He almost got Full house in one day - missing the Florin :-(

Then in the evening i had another hour in the park with Olly in attempt to get at least 1 silver coin for the day - and i got it (after changing to smaller coil) - 1934 Shilling

Overall a good day, but very exhausting. i would rather be at the beach :

Total coins for the day :112 coins (1/2Cent coins are not in the picture)

Beach hunt#65-66 Silver Ring #49 Night Hunts

Was a bit busy and didnt post weekend finds.
I had 2 hunts at Stanmore bay on Friday and Saturday night that were pretty interesting...
So Friday night started when Olly picked me up up and we went to Manly beach. It was sanded in,but we were able to pick up some 1-2$ coins . Olly got a very chunky silver bracelet.
As we were already on upcoming tide, we decided to take a quick midnight pizza brake before visiting Stanmore bay park for 1-2$ coin shooting....
... When we came to the beach--- OMG! all sand was washed away from around main entrance... but water was already at 1/2 tide... Muttering that we wasted about 45 minutes on Pizza we start swinging as close to water as possible... 2 lines walked before both of us got full gumboots of water (you do not see that big wave coming when you dig the target) so we had to leave... but in that 20 minutes i got 3 rings. sinkers and some coins that were sitting right on top - just a scratch with a scoop...
...Pity that rings are copper (billabong) , S.steel and small silver ring.
I also picked up a  lot of boating brass scrap (good $$$)

So on Saturday morning i tried to call everyone to go to the beach on the morning low tide.. but all were busy :-(
So Olly and i were able to get to the beach only on the midnight L.tide. Andrew also came over and we start hammering the beach that already got sanded in, but not heavily.
No good rings for us, i got only a small silver/junk ring, so tiny that i didnt bother cleaning it or making a picture.
After about an hour at the beach, Olly suggested to do some coin shooting as competition.(Andrew decided to stick to the beach before heading home)

Coin shooting:
Olly decided to use his F75 against my CTX3030 with 17 coil.
Both of us hunting almost side to side in a very trashy area.. who do you thing came as a winner?
Yap, Me :-) i got 20$ in a bout an hour and Olly got 18.

Pretty good night overall, except that i missed a morning tide and a hunt with Dan .
I woke after 1 pm and had heaps of messages and miscalls from Dan and other people. :-(
Dan, i am very sorry that i let you down :-( its just body decided to ignore all alarms and sleep in .

Thanks for stopping by.
See you next time

"Big Day Out" with Dale, Yields Full House of NZ predecimals!

Good day,
Couldn't wait till tomorrow to post , even that it is already almost midnight....

First stop was about 10 am at Takapuna beach for about 20 minutes where Dale picked up broken USA 10CT Class Ring ,dated 1974! very very greeny but very cool find.

After we went to Sylvan Park where i picked up NZ & UK 3d and just before we left.. i got my Second ever NZ Half Crown! As we were around milford, we poped in at a Very nice Antique store - Molloys Of Milford Antiques Centre

Then we had super lunch and another find of the day - French bakery just around the corner from the store.

Recharged and full of energy we went to Dale's secret spot where we had some really cool finds ....

It was very cool there, as i had 2 special coin spiils - 8 pennys and 6! florins, unfortunately only one was foil... but that was enough to get Full house!

Here are all coin finds for the day including small junk ring that was part of triple ring (others shattered)

Total amount of coins for the day is : 73

The best of the day, Silver:

So, that is me... But , oh boy... how hard it is to dig in the dirt to compare with Beaches! ;/

Beach hunt#64 Silver Ring # 47-48 from inexhaustible Takapuna

Andrew called me up for an evening hunt after 8.5 hours in the office...
Pretty much for an exercise. So we decided to go to Takapuna.....

And we still can not believe, how much stuff is still left there :-)

At the moment sitting and waiting for Dale to go for some old silver :-)
